Reduction of the carbon footprint
baseline
2017
Our ambition is a 20% reduction in our carbon footprint per movement by 2025, based on the 2017 carbon footprint. Strategic projects that focus on logistics, energy and our re-usable carriers will enable us to reach this goal.
* The emission factors are updated every three years; the new factors that are used in the 2020 calculations also affect the results.

Reduction of the carbon footprint
2021
At LPR, the carbon footprint was reduced only slightly, by 1.4% compared to in 2019. The development of new customer flows, especially in the UK, allowed for a better balance of stocks and reduced international re-grouping needs. On the other hand, transport distances to customers increased. In response to Brexit, heat treatment facilities were installed at some service centres. This has led to an increase in the footprint at depots and storage. With all strategic projects being implemented, we expect to further reduce our carbon footprint in 2021.
2020
In 2020, the results clearly show our strategy’s impact. At EPS, the carbon footprint per movement was reduced by more than 10% compared to 2019. Restrictions regarding COVID-19 required more regrouping of assets and caused inefficiencies in transport. Unfortunately, this counteracted our efforts to optimise our transport and network. However, we remain dedicated to achieving our goal to decrease our carbon footprint in the coming years
